On August 27th, we held our first annual EDL Fest at O’Connor Brewing Co. in Norfolk, VA.
Thanks to all of the many talented visual artists that were in attendance, we’re able to document a highlight event that will continue to take place in the Hampton Roads area.
There were many different elements to the show that allowed it to aptly be titled a “Hip-Hop carnival”. Not only were there pieces that made it a fun time and an incredible definition to a “Sunday Funday,” but the spirit of Hip-Hop was also present in the midst of educating those who were interested in learning real industry tools to take away with them.. for free.
The festival started out with a live art exhibit from local creators of the 757 area who brought some of their work to showcase, and created on site as well. We have a HUGE EDL banner floating around the city somewhere that was spray-painted with 90’s flavor by our very own. We’d love to get that and hang it in our office too man, if the artists just so happen to peep this lil’ article.
The art was followed by a creative panel that featured many success stories from VA and our surrounding areas. Much love & thank you to all of the panelists that gave their time & knowledge to a slew of rising innovators from the 757. I believe I can speak for everyone in saying those were indeed invaluable keys. You are appreciated.
I could go on & on. We had B-Boys. Performances. Vendors. Food Trucks.. Everything. It was mad love & mad Hip-Hop going on. Very necessary for the area.. but the REAL hype came about during “The Producer’s Cut” and the Cipher. The energy of the evening shifted drastically and things got exciting.
Imagine 3 hours of some of an area’s most elite producers & emcee’s just spitting off the dome & vibing. I can’t even really give you a justified feeling on what took place that night, but this recap can definitely speak a lot more volume.
As long-winded as I just made this article, the real spotlight has to go to the shooter. Definitely. I have a hard-drive with over 1000 photos & hella video clips captured by one of VA’s REAL heavy-hitters when it comes to slinging the weight of that camera lens game around. He’s the illest, and that’s an understatement. Thank you D Loc. You did your thing man. I still can’t even digest all this material man. (lol)
