This is kind of crazy because San Fransisco R&B singer illa is a one-man-band.. but throughout all 10-tracks of her new EP, “FAVOR,” she sounds like a full group of ladies putting it down on wax.
Shoutout to everyone that was involved in bringing this project to life. FAVOR is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air back into the essence of R&B music. Truth be told, this EP reminds me of the golden era, back when R&B singers were REALLY holding it down. SWV, Xscape, Total, even Destiny’s Child.. you get the picture. That real thin line between Hip-Hop and R&B.. This is it.
illa’s debut body of work was completely produced by Trackademicks, whose had his hands in the careers of notable acts like Teedra Moses, Kamaiyah, Phonte of Little Brother, IAMSU!, and many others. With this project, the songstress reflects on finding herself again after a turbulent relationship and discovering the “Favor” in it all. Her throaty vocals, vulnerable with emotion, tell the story of losing herself in love, and how she found her way through the pain, with God’s love and FAVOR.
With a sound that escalates as each track transitions into the next, it goes without saying that illa has a very immaculate premiere to the masses on her hands. Listen below to her new EP, “FAVOR”. Let us know about some of your favorite tracks pulled from it as well.
